Installing and using Windows backup software
A little known add on shipped free on the XP home edition is Windows XP Home
Edition Backup. It’s a very basic piece of backup software, but it is less
crude than doing it by hand and best of all its free once you own XP home
edition.
To begin installing it, place the XP Installation CD in the computer
A screen identical to the one below should appear (If it does not, you will
need to go into My Computer and right click on the drive in which the CD is
placed and select Auto play)

Select Perform Additional Tasks

Select Browse this CD

Select the VALUEADD folder

Select the MSFT folder

Select the NTBACKUP Folder

Click to run the NTBACKUP installer (NTBACKUP.MSI)
The Installer is fully automated; it will run without any user interaction. Let
it install, and once it has finished, click the Finish button.
NT backup is now installed.
How to use NT Backup
Press Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance
Once you have loaded up Performance and maintenance you will see there is a new
addition to the menu – Backup your data . Select this and the Backup and
Restore Wizard will load.

The wizard is fairly intuitive, follow each screen to create your backup.
