The Main Program Screen is illustrated in Figure 8

Figure 8:

Tip: Before commencing any scans, it is recommended to click on Up Date Now to download the updated database from AVG.
(This will be automatic, and no user intervention is required.)
However, in the event that a third party Firewall is installed, permanent "Permission" will need to be given for the program to gain access to the Grisoft® - AVG™site for the updates.

During the update an illustration similar to Figure 9 will appear.

Figure 9:

When the update (if any) has finished, click on the Status button at the top of the screen; then, click on Scan Now.
For the first scan, it is highly recommended that a Complete System Scan is selected, as shown in Figure 10.

Warning: It is NOT recommended to alter any of the "Settings" that have been created by the Program's defaults, unless specifically instructed to do so by qualified personnel.

Figure 10:

During the 30 day Trial it is quite normal for the program to update more than once a day; however, this will only continue until the Trial Period is finished.
At the end of the Trial Period, a licence will need to be purchased from Grisoft® to continue receiving automatic updates.

Figure 11 illustrates a scan in progress...Generally a Complete System Scan will take around 15 - 25 minutes (this depends on the size of the HDD's being scanned).

Figure 11:

Upon completion of the scan, a confirmation window will appear (figure 12) indicating the results, and if any infections are found.
(The computer used in this example shows two such infections.)

Figure 12:

The program will have pre-set guides for 'cleaning' any infections; it is recommended to click on Apply all Actions and allow the program to execute the actions.
A confirmation screen will appear as shown by figure 13.

Figure 13:

The scan is complete; it is merely a matter of clicking on the X in the top right corner to close the program.

It should be emphasised that the program will continue to function for 30 days beforethe automatic protection will cease.
To have Automatic Updates etc, after the Trial Period has expired, simply select the Buy Now option, as shown in figure 14 and follow the on-screen prompts to purchase a program licence.

Figure 14:

Purchase of the program is entirely up to the user, as this program will continue to operate manually without purchasing a licence.
It is important to mention this fact, because this software will quarantine items that other protection programs report as threats.
In the event that other protection software programs fail to remove any found 'threats'; simply run the AVG™ Anti - Spyware program, and select the Quarantined Items folder (shown in figure 15); then, Select All to highlight them, and Remove Finally will eradicate them from the system completely.

Figure 15:

Congratulations! The AVG™ Anti - Spyware Installation and first scan is now complete.

Daily/Weekly Running Guide.

Due to the time that this program takes to execute and complete a scan, it may not be convenient for some users to run it on a daily basis.
It is recommended that a scan be performed at least once a week following the guideline explained earlier in this guide.

Important Note:
With this software installed and the use of any file sharing programs is apparent, or suspect any downloads, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED users aquire the habit of Right clicking all downloads and utilise the Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware option as shown in Figure 16 BEFORE opening the file.
AVG Anti Spyware will then scan the file and report any infections; in the event that any are found to protect the system Delete them.

Enjoy using AVG™ Anti Spyware!
