How to download and install Ad-Aware 2008 Free

Ad-Aware 2008 Free is an anti-spyware program that is available free for downloading from Lavasoft®. It is intended for personal home use only. Extended or commercial versions are also available for purchase from Lavasoft®: Ad-Aware 2008 Plus, Ad-Aware 2008 Pro and Ad-Aware Enterprise 2.0 for networks.

For the purposes of this article, we will deal only with Ad-Aware 2008 Free.

There are currently no plug-ins or additional components available for Ad-Aware 2008 Free. However, as they become available, this guide will be updated accordingly. Technical support is available from the Lavasoft® Support Forums.


Installation Guide for Ad-Aware 2008 Free:

Note: Ad-Aware 2008 typically must update its file definitions prior to each scan. Be sure to set your firewall permissions to allow for Internet access before proceeding.

1. Begin the download process from the Lavasoft® website. You will be redirected to the download.com website (fig.1). Click Download Now

This process can sometimes take time, so be patient. If it is struggling to download, return to the original Ad-Aware site, and try another mirror site, as Download.com is the main site and can sometimes be slowed down by excess traffic.

2. Click on Save File and save the file to your desktop:

3. At your desktop, double-click the newly created aaw2008 icon. The Ad-Aware Installation Wizard will open (Fig. 3). Read and follow the instructions. When finished, click NEXT.

4. Read the License agreement, (Fig. 4). If you agree, select I accept the license agreement, then click on NEXT.

5. Verify that the information is correct or leave blank. (Fig. 5) Select Anyone who uses this computer (preferred) or Only for me if you only want it installed on your user account. Click on NEXT.

6. Select Standard Installation and click NEXT. (You can modify advanced options later.)

7. Click NEXT to install Ad-Aware 2008 into the default folder.

8. If a dialog box entitled Product Registration prompts you for License Information, click on Use Free as you are installing the free version of Ad-Aware.

The Ad-Aware application will now open to the Update Manager screen, once this gets to the line Installation Finished your installation is complete. The Main Ad-Aware console screen now opens up.
